Trim Levels (Exterior)
<p>The 2018 Ford Fusion comes in five tantalizing trim levels: the S, SE, Titanium, Sport, and Platinum. Even at the entry-level it brims with features such as 16-inch painted aluminum wheels, power side mirrors, a chrome grille, daytime running lights, LED taillights, tinted glass, and chrome-tipped exhaust. With the SE, you’ll get even more thanks to 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels, LED signature lighting, and power heated side mirrors, while the Titanium boasts LED fog lamps, dual chrome exhaust tips, and a reverse sensing system.<br/><br/>The Sport tacks on 19-inch dark alloy wheels, a unique high-gloss black grille, and quad tip exhaust. To round out the lineup, the Platinum gets its own set of 19-inch wheels and a premium sport grille.<p/>
Engine (Power)
Depending on the trim you select, you’ll have one of four engine choices. The offerings start with a 175-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission. You can also upgrade to a 181-horsepower, 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder or a 245-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder also with a six-speed. The creme de la creme of the engine lineup is the Sport trim’s 2.7-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo that’s good for 325 horsepower and a whole lot of fun.
Performance
If fuel economy is at the top of your priority list, the Fusion delivers. The S and SE get an estimated 32 mpg on the highway and 21 mpg in the city, and the Titanium and Platinum dip just below these numbers at 31 mpg on the highway and 21 mpg in the city. With its larger engine, the Sport trades performance for efficiency, but it’s still good for around 26 mpg on the highway and 17 mpg in the city.
Interior
Roomy enough for five people, the cabin of the Fusion is almost like a sanctuary when it’s just you at the wheel, but it can also explode into an all-out party thanks to plenty of tech features. With the Ford SYNC 3 infotainment system, all your favorite tunes, podcasts, and other media is right at your fingertips. Run it through the premium sound system for some good, old-fashioned fun. Upper trims also get heated seats, leather throughout, Bluetooth connectivity, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.
Safety Features
The 2018 Ford Fusion receives a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration thanks to a glut of active, passive, and driver-assist features. Although not available on the S trim, the upper trims have available safety features to prevent accidents such as automated emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and more.
