Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2018 Edge is offered in SE, SEL, Titanium, and Sport trim levels. The SE model features head-turning 18-inch sparkle silver-painted aluminum wheels, automatic halogen headlamps with daytime running lamps, LED taillights, and dual stainless steel exhaust tips. The SEL looks more distinctive with split-spoke sparkle silver-painted aluminum wheels, more chrome exterior accents, and LED signature lighting. The Titanium adds 19-inch aluminum wheels and additional exterior chrome trim, while the Sport model stands out with a unique piano black grille with magnetic surround, 20-inch wheels, and dual trapezoidal exhaust tips.
Engine (Power)
The SE, SEL, and Titanium models come fitted with a twin-scroll turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost inline-four engine that puts out 245 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. With this engine, the Edge can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in approximately eight seconds. If you want more power, you can get the available 3.5-liter V6 with 280 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. The Sport model gets the most powerful engine: a 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine rated at 315 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. It can make zero to 60 mph in a brisk 5.6 seconds.
Performance
With the standard engine, the 2018 Ford Edge achieves a fuel economy rating of 20/29 mpg (city/highway), which is above average in its class. However, fuel-efficiency drops to 17/26 mpg with the more powerful engines. Despite being an SUV, the Edge handles like a car with accurate steering and impressive braking. It gives you a smooth ride along winding roads and around corners, with minimal body lean. The Sport trim offers better handling thanks to its sport-tuned suspension system.
Interior
The 2018 Edge offers a total passenger space of 113.9 cubic feet, with 40.2 inches of headroom and 42.6 inches of legroom in the front row, and 40.3 inches of headroom and 40.6 inches of legroom in the second row. It also has 39.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats. The SUV also comes standard with a basic infotainment system with voice controls and smartphone connectivity. This system can be upgraded to the SYNC 3 system with an 8-inch display, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
Safety Features
The 2018 Ford Edge has many features to keep you safe. One of these features is a tire pressure monitoring system that constantly checks the pressure in each tire and alerts you when it falls below the recommended level. The SUV also comes with an available active park assist system that uses ultrasonic sensors to search for parking spots. When it finds a good parking spot, it steers the SUV into the parking space. All you need to do is control the brakes, gear, and acceleration. The Edge also has an available lane-keeping system that senses when you’re drifting away from your lane and alerts you when that happens.
